Candyland Went Off Without A Hitch!

Category: Announcements

That's the phrase right? I am unsure as to what it really means but I think it means that Candyland went great! That is what I want it to mean because it did go great. The halls looked incredible thanks to our wonderful residents and our ResLife staff. They did such an amazing job and really helped make it a fun time for all of the kids that came through! Soon I will be posting pictures. If any of you have any pictures you want me to post just email me and I would love to share them with the world. Thanks for being such great residents! Do you even know what Torrey is all about?

Category: Announcements

Hi ladies! I don't know about you but I am so thankful for Torrey this week! Something else I do know is that last year at this time when I was a lowly transfer student I had NO IDEA what Torrey was. Everyone talked about it like they knew exactly what is was and how it happened and who had to go...and I was lost. I eventually found friends that were returning students, veterans to the Torrey Conference if you will, who gave me the low down. And today I would like to give it to you. Torrey is a conference put on by the Department of Spiritual life and the AS Chapel Chair and staff. The theme is different every year and the point is for enrichment and growth. The theme is Facing Suffering. The team lined up to speak to us looks great and it should be a time of not only growth but hopefully healing and understanding. Some of you may be excited and ready but also thinking "what if I miss one?" or "do I have to attend all sessions all day long?" or "will every student fit in the gym?" or a whole host of other questions. Here are the answers. During Torrey Conference each full time student has to have 8 Conference Credits. In light of life, they understand that not everyone can make it to all 8 so the rule is that you have to physically attend 4 of the Conferences during these next few days. Then you are free to make up the credit just like you make up Chapel Credit. You can purchase a copy of the speaker and then fill out a page about what you heard. There are 4 opportunities for credit Wednesday and Thursday--3 actual speaking sessions and then 1 of 2 times for reflection you can receive credit. On Friday the session is one longer session where you can receive credit. I hope that this helps anyone who may be feeling lost. Feel free to contact me with any more questions or to follow this link: http://studentlife.biola.edu/ministry-and-worship/chapel/2009-torrey-conference. Did you get to be a part of Biola Gives Back?

Category: Articles

If yes--Thank you so much for coming out and spending time with the La Mirada Community! If no--There is no need to fret because we plan to do it again some time. We met at 10am on Saturday morning and had a nice time of worship with Mark Heath and then a word on service from Justin DeVesta. Both did a really great job and helped lead us into an attitude of service. Parts of the day allowed us to show are flexibility but all in all we were able to bless people in the community by lending them a practical hand and a loving heart. If you want to be a part of the next Serve Day just keep your ears open or feel free to contact me or Justin DeVesta with any questions or suggestions!

Hello!

Category: Articles

Hello East Alpha-ites! So while there seem to be so many things happening with my school work there also seem to be a few less things happening with AS. But don't fret. Allow this little break in time prepare you for the great things to come! Punk N Pie and Shane and Shane and Sola soul...all of these events will be great so keep your eyes and ears open for more information about them. For now, just enjoy a little break from social events and work on your school work. I know I certainly need to. Last night I had a great time getting to know more of you and really hearing what is on your hearts! I would love a chance to get to chat with everyone so be on the look out for me and get your opinions and ideas ready! With the AS events slowing down for a bit don't forget about sports. Volleyball, Soccer, and Swimming are in full swing and in need of your support so wear your red sea shirts and scream loudly (can you scream at swimming?). Please remember if you need anything or have some questions and concerns please feel free to stop by my room--352! Hoping to see you soon, Anna Kennedy

Nationball Recap

Category: Articles

Dear dedicated, painted, rowdy, ladies of Alpha East, WAY TO REPRESENT at Nationball! We may have lost the game this year but people better watch next year because we are coming on strong and will only get stronger! Thank you to all the ladies who stopped studying and put some blue on to come out and help us take a stab at the title "Nationball Champs". We met at 9:30 and rallied together the troops and made an excellent entrance and impression. Our hopes were high but not quite high enough to take down Stewart. We held our own for a good few minutes and were even helped by our wonderful brothers from Emerson but we just couldnt pull it out! I know this loss is disappointing but I think it would be best to use it as fuel to help us win future competitions! There are many more opportunities ahead for us to come together and show the rest of campus whose boss! Let these pictures tell all the fun we had!

Anna Kennedy

Alpha East Senator

This whole Senator thing is a new adventure for me but one that I am ready and willing to be a part of. I love Biola and I also love the unique place where I get to live and serve: Alpha East. Starting college can be a scary endeavor—I know from experience—and my desire is to listen to what the women of Alpha East have to say, get their voices heard, help make changes to Alpha, get people involved, provide a connection between the Associated Students and Alpha, and be a servant leader to everyone around me. Although my door may not always be physically open I hope that all the AE women know that they can come to me anytime for any reason. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you and hopefully bring the AE community of women together to help make Biola a better place.
