SUBJECT: Block Apartment Christmas Cruise
1. Proposal: This December we are hoping to host the 5th Annual Block Apartment Christmas Cruise (with Lido, Beachcomber, Tradewinds, and Tropicana). This cruise has been a favorite tradition for many of the residents of the off campus housing and has proven to be a huge success. The date of the event will be Saturday December 5th, 2009 from 7:00-10:00pm.
The Block Christmas Cruise is a three-hour dessert cruise around the Long Beach Harbor and Naples housing, which is well-known for decorating their homes with Christmas décor and festive holidays embellishments. We have reserved a yacht through Harbor Breeze Cruise Company, which we have used for the past four years.
Our Purpose: 1) To celebrate the end of the semester as a community 2) To honor the December Graduates with a memorable experience 3) To gain momentum for the spring semester by cultivating relationships among residents.
2. Amount Requested: $1500 – Our total expenses is $3,950. Here is the approximate price break down:
Expenses: $3,300 Yacht Rental $ 300 Band $ 150 Decorations $ 200 Desserts $3,950 TOTAL EXPENSES
Funding: Total Expenses: $3950 Ticket Sales: -$1200 Alumni Department Gift: -$1250 REMAINING EXPENSES $1500
3. Problems with Status Quo: The apartment residents are all upper classmen, many of whom are seniors with limited interaction with AS throughout the year. Unfortunately, it’s been difficult to get the constituents to come to AS events and participate. However, with events like the Christmas Cruise, we are able to give back to a portion of the student body that is commonly neglected.
4. Miscellaneous: The event will host 120 residents (plus 15 for the band, the RCs, and myself). Ticket price will be $10. The event sells out.
