GMC Proposal
MEMORANDUM FOR AS SENIOR VP/SENATE FROM: Justin De Vesta and Cynthia Pimentel, Commuter Senators SUBJECT: Good Morning Commuters 1. Proposal: This proposal is to partner with commuter life to sponsor a twice monthly “Good Morning Commuters.”This event will occur between 9:00 am and 11:00 am on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. It is a physical location for all commuters to gather and communicate with their senators outside the Collegium and receive information about current events and proposals. During this time, doughnuts will always be available for them. Some days, probably ones closer to Christmas, we will provide candy, fruit, and hot drinks (coffee/hot chocolate/apple cider). The goals of this event are to empower students by letting them know that their suggestions are taken seriously, to be a place for commuters to learn about events without being in a dorm, and to build healthy, continuous relationships with the members of AS.

3. Problems with the status quo: Since students some to school at different times and there is no centralized location to reach them, commuters need a consistent place to be informed about events and/or communicate their needs/wants to their student representatives. Because the vast majority of commuters are not members of the Collegium, those students have a difficult time adequately communicating with their senators in a specific location. This was a very successful event last year and we reached a significant number of commuter students through this event.
4. Miscellaneous: Commuter Life is partnering with us by providing the tables, napkins, Marketing posts, and events going on in the Collegium. A Breakdown of the Cost: 1. At $118.50 per event, for 8 events, the total comes out to $948.00. Commuter Life is paying for half so the total price comes out to $474.00.

GMC represents a partnership between AS and the Department of Commuter Life. It is co-planned, co-run, and in the past co-funded. We would like to continue this arrangement and therefore are proposing that the AS Senate grant funding of $474.00 for 8 fall GMC events.
