On Voting Responsibly on Senate Proposals
Some things to consider when voting on Proposals: 1) The money that you are voting to appropriate to Proposals comes from your student fees. As such, if you don’t like the proposal and do not think that it will not do what the proposers say that it will do, vote against it!! On the contrary if you think that it is a good idea, then vote for it!! 2) Don’t base your vote on what others in the room have said. Be proud of your own opinion!! 3) Just because the Senate has the money to pay for the proposal doesn’t mean that we should. We want to be fiscally responsible people and to use the money for God’s glory ultimately, so weigh whether the money needs to come from the AS Budget, or whether it can come from elsewhere. 4) Consider whether it fits into the Mission Statement of the Associated Student Government, which is: to represent the student body on an administrative level, giving ear to their voice, providing services, and facilitating events necessary to foster a Christ-centered community. We are also committed to equipping leaders to serve effectively in their communities. If you feel that the proposals do not fit into these parameters, then do not vote for it. 5) When voting, know your options!! You can: a. Vote for the proposal in the Full Amount. b. Vote for a partial amount of the Proposal. c. Abstain from Voting (though this is preferable only if you feel that you do not have enough information, or you do not care enough to make a decision.) d. Vote the Proposal down in its entirety. Thanks, and I look forward to your input!!
