Proposal: The Chimes is proposing for new chairs, lighting fixtures, and the cost of binding newspapers. Amount Requested: $900
Proposal: For a new computer for the Biolan staff with CS3. Amount Requested: $2,441.97 + 290 = $2,731.97 (or $2,431.97 depending on VP of Finance Update)
Proposal: For the addition of a paid Designer position on next year’s Biolan Staff making the total of such positions two, with a Design Editor over them. Amount Requested: Minimum wage; 10 hours a week.
Proposal: Publish a Spanish Language newspaper “EL Rincon” Amount requested: $3,000
Proposal: 2008 Biola Film Festival Budget Amount requested: $8,000
Although Biola does give AS the responsibilty of a substantial budget, we also get the responsibility of making our own facility repairs. It looks like this is one of those times when we’re going to fork over some money to fix some chairs. I think binding our newspapers is a wise decision but I don’t see why that was not already built in the budget. Lastly, I do not agree with adding new track-lighting fixtures. As more and more proposals are coming in I feel that the money could be better spent on other things than improving lighting fixtures.
As for the Biolan proposals, I see a need for both a new computer and designer, I just don’t know if this is the time to be expanding the department. Maybe at the begining of the semester next year would be a good time to add a position.
I love that Biola students are wanting to create a spanish language newspaper and these student’s vision behind it. I think this is one of those times when we can really see how students can be impacted and how we can impact beyond Biola. I would really like to hear feedback on this proposal because it is a large amount of money.
Lastly, the Biola Film festival producers are requesting a Budget of $8,000 this year. To say the least, that is a huge amount of money. Please look at this proposal in detail and give me your feedback.

“Proposal: Publish a Spanish Language newspaper “EL Rincon” Amount requested: $3,000”
Would this be a Spanish version of the Chimes, or a paper that extends beyond the reach of Biola? What exactly IS its purpose? After all,as much as I love the Spanish language, we are primarily an English-speaking country and university. It would not serve the majority of Biolans to have a Spanish language newspaper.
