SUBJECT: Student Fee Increase Resolution
1. Proposal: I am proposing for a resolution for the increase in the 2009-2010 student fee. If this resolution is passed, then it will be sent to Administration with an explanation of the need for the student fee increase.
2. Amount Requested: $0.00. However, the difference in the student fee would have an impact of approximately $40,000. Attached is a break down of the effects on the different departments.
3. Problems with Status Quo: 1. The minimum wage has increased over the past year, causing us to increase the pay of all AS employees. Also, there are positions that have the maximum hours per week under budgeted; which means that either they don’t work and events don’t get done, or we pay them for their hours and we go over budget.
2. With the creation of Biola’s Media Board, AS gives more money to both the Chimes and the Biolan, thus giving AS less money for our operating budget. The Chimes and the Biolan also have a very minimal operating budget this year.
3. With the focus of academic prestige improving this year, we would also like to reflect that with our Honorariums. If AS wishes to improve this and thus improve our speakers, the budget needs to increase so we can pay the speakers adequately.
4. Miscellaneous: Passing this proposal does not guarantee an increase in the student fee; that is up to Administration to decide.
