Stewart Ping Pong Table
RESULTS: PASSED ON 9/15/09 FOR $128.70
08 September 2009 MEMORANDUM FOR A.S. SENIOR VP / SENATE
FROM: Kurt Yazdizadeh / Stewart Senator
SUBJECT: Stewart Hall Ping-Pong Conversion Table
1. Proposal: This proposal is planning to add a ping-pong conversion table to the upstairs lobby of Stewart, as well as 4 paddles and a pack of 36 ping-pong balls.
2. Amount Requested: $128.70
3. Problems with Status Quo: Residents of Stewart have expressed a desire to have a ping-pong table in the lobby since last school year. The lack of a ping pong table in the Stewart lobby forces residents to find another dorm (such as Hope or Hart) to play ping-pong. Not only is this an inconvenience but it discourages community for residents of Stewart. I have recently sent an e-mail asking Facilities to see if they are able to help in any capacity but I have yet to hear a response.
4. Miscellaneous: The conversion top table I am proposing is currently on clearance at Big 5 Sporting Goods. This is the last table they have in stock and they will not be getting any more in the future. It is currently not on display so it is likely not to sell out; but I would like to take advantage of the clearance price. This same table retails online for $129.99, so there is already a savings of approximately $60. I have also conducted a survey asking if there is an interest in investing in a table, as well as how much they would actually plan on using it if one were to be placed in the lobby. There have been overwhelmingly positive results: only 6 out of 73 surveyed were not interested in a table, and 2 didn’t have any preference. Of the 65 remaining that expressed interests in a table, 7 were very excited to hopefully see a table in the lobby.
