SUBJECT: Good Morning OCC
1. Proposal: This proposal is to co-sponsor with Commuter Life and the Commuter Senators in hosting a twice monthly “Good Morning Commuter/OCC” event. Essentially, we are proposing to enlarge this event that is already in place to include all members of the OCC (Off Campus Commuters, including the Bluff and Block). We would like to invite our constituents to join the Commuters at the “Good Morning Commuters” breakfast table where we can offer donuts, talk about senate happenings, and encourage OCC fellowship. This will not only promote unity between OCC students, but will also provide an opportunity to reach more of our constituents about pending proposals and upcoming AS events. We want as much face-to-face contact with our residents as we can and we believe that joining in this event will allow us to demonstrate the importance of their opinions.
2. Amount Requested: $100. Breakdown is as follows:
a. One box of donuts costs around $6 b. (4) boxes per event x ($6) x (4) events =$96 3.
4. Problems with the Status Quo: While doing senator-rounds a few weeks ago, we asked our residents about their opinions on the Good Morning Commuters proposal. Many residents showed immediate interest, thinking they would be included in this event. They didn’t understand why they were considered part of “Off Campus Commuters” for dorm points, but not as commuters for Wednesday breakfasts. Additionally, since all of our constituents are upper-classmen, the majority of them have jobs and/or busy schedules and are difficult to contact during rounds. Since this event has been successful for Commuters, we hope that enlarging the event to include the Bluff and Block will be successful for the entire OCC, which makes up a significant portion of the Biola community. By adding two more senators, inviting the entire OCC to join, and adding funds to the event to provide more food, each OCC student will have more opportunities for personal contact with AS.
5. Miscellaneous: We will co-sponsor roughly 4-5 Good Morning Commuter events.
