October 4, 2009 MEMORANDUM FOR AS SENIOR VP/SENATE
FROM: Cynthia Pimentel and Estela Joya – AS Commuter Senators, Lizzie Neely – Bluff Senator, Anthony Kemp – Block Senator
SUBJECT: O.C.C. Barbeque
1. Proposal: We are proposing to host an O.C.C. Barbeque on October 30. Our goal is to not only bring a higher sense of unity and community among the O.C.C. but it is our main interest to promote Punk-n-Pie. Punk-n- Pie is going to be huge this year as it will be held on Metzger Lawn and there will not be limited seating as there was in Sutherland. We hope to hold this event in the afternoon leading up to Punk-n-Pie. In addition to getting more people to go to Punk-n-Pie, the barbeque will allow us to get more face to face time with more of our constituents. We believe that this will benefit a great number of our constituents.
2. Amount Requested: $800
a. Hamburger Buns (150) – $40 b. Hot Dog Buns (150) – $40 c. Hamburgers (100 beef, 50 non-beef option) – $250 d. Hotdogs (100 “normal,” 50 other option) – $250 e. Paper goods – $100 f. Miscellaneous (cheese, condiments, lettuce, etc.) – $75 g. Salads – $45
3. Problems with the Status Quo:
• Commuters do not have a centralized location where they can consistently get informed about what is going on. Because a vast majority of commuters are not Collegium members, they often have a difficult time adequately communicating with their senators. The barbeque will facilitate keeping commuters around for an AS event. • Understandably, the Block and Bluff are near campus; however, many have voiced the interest in volunteering and attending the barbeque for the sake of community within the O.C.C.
4. Miscellaneous: The Commuter Senators held a similar event last year prior to Punk-n-Pie and the commuter response was overwhelming as about 90 people attended the event and approximately 75 attended Punk-n-Pie. We have considered doing a pack out through the café, but most of the OCC students either do not have a meal plan or have a limited meal per week plan. Together we serve approximately 1200 students. a. Note prices may be less if we find items in bulk. And prices are estimatations. b. There is no advertising costs because we will make our own through Commuter Life. The ad will also be sent through BUBBS.

Pass it in full! Always good to have the commuters on campus!
