1. Proposal: We, the lacrosse club, propose that AS help fund our trip to the Men’s College Lacrosse Association National Tournament May 13th-17th in Frisco, Texas. This prestigious event involves 25 teams across the nation to compete for the National title. This event is what our team has been fighting for all season. With much effort, time and determination we, for the first time in the team’s history, have won our Division (WCLL Div. 2 South). We are now within one game of winning our Region (WCLL Div. 2) and getting an automatic bid for the tournament. Lacrosse has become a staple at Biola for current as well as perspective students and this is a chance to represent our university on a national level.
2. Amount Requested: $7,000.
Airfare- $7000 ($260×25)
Car Rental/Gas- $1000 (4 cars + gas for a week)
Food- 1900 ($15/day for 25 guys for 5 days)
Housing- 0 (we are going to try to stay at a church)
Unexpected costs or fees- 600 (numbers are the closest possible estimate)

3. Problems with Status Quo: One of the problems with status quo is that we are still fighting for the right to be viewed as a legitimate sport. We raised $7,000 through donation letters and other fundraising opportunities. At this time we are the only Club Sport blessed with this type of opportunity. We are not a university-sponsored athletic team, but we are trying our best to gain that status and are currently stifled by a lack of funding. Based on the fact that we are all full time non-scholarship students without a full time coach, it becomes necessary for us to seek funds outside of our own personal fundraising in order to meet the monetary demands of the sport. Between tournaments, league dues and ref fees the club has spent about $7300 (not including travel costs). Please recognize that the average student, along with their time commitment will pay on average $725. Average costs: Helmet- $110.00 Shoulder Pads- $50.00 Elbow Guards- $40.00 Gloves- $100.00 Stick (head and Shaft)- $150.00 Player Dues- $150.00 Player Packs- $75.00 Las Vegas Trip- $50.00 $725 (On average per player)
4. Miscellaneous: It is with classiness, witness and skill that we would like to take to Texas with us as we represent Biola. I believe that the team and this opportunity fulfills the AS mission statement; “Our mission is to represent the student body on an administrative level, as well as provide services and facilitate events to foster a Christ-centered community.” It has been our philosophy to include as many Biola Students as possible into our sport in one capacity or another. In keeping with this tradition, we plan to involve the school in our quest through podcasts and hosting an event upon our return of game highlights and recaps of our experiences. Please note; Biola’s entrance to nationals is dependent upon a win on May 4th. With this in mind, the club would only need to accept funds if we win on that day. Please understand that the reason that we are appealing to you before conformation is because we will only have 6 days between the game and needing to be in Texas. So it becomes important to plan ahead.
