November 3, 2009 MEMORANDUM FOR A.S. SENIOR VP / SENATE
FROM: Cameron McClellan President of Students Together and Naturally Diverse (S.T.A.N.D.)
SUBJECT: S.T.A.N.D. Event Proposal
1. Proposal: I am proposing a budget for the 2009 S.T.A.N.D. harvest fest. The dream of S.T.A.N.D. is to “To unite the different ethnic/culture clubs on Biola’s campus, in order to see the unity within God’s diversity. Promoting more interactions with each club and to provide education and awareness to each other.” In order to help this dream become a reality, I am seeking to unite the ethic clubs on Biola’s campus in fellowship through a harvest celebration. This event will consist of a series of small activities that shares the culture and foods from the various ethnic clubs on Biola’s campus.
2. Amount Requested: $800
Food to cover 9 different ethnic clubs on Biola’s campus-—-—-—-—$400
Plates, utensils, napkins, paper ware and plastic ware-—-—-—-—-—$50
Cleanup fees associated with campus coordination and facility services--$50
Room fees charged by campus coordination-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-$300
3. Problems with Status Quo: As we look around the Biola environment there is a lack of sensitivity and awareness to cultural diversity. Furthermore, clubs, especially the ethnic clubs on campus, are isolated from one another in their own social realm. If the Body of Christ is to be diverse, then we must promote diversity within the Kingdom to help reach the goal. Diversity, unity, and celebration begin here.
4. Miscellaneous: Biola is very limited in ethnic and cultural diversity. As a university there is money spent in many places and on several areas that are deemed worthy, but the area of diversity is one that is often shadowed. We say, “put your money where your heart is” and support a time of reflection, celebration, endurance, and building of the diverse Kingdom of God.
