Religious & Academic Relations
- What we do
- Our Blog
Religious Speakers- To better understand and interact with persons of different faiths, this position has hosted Muslim imams, Buddhist venerables, and Mormon apologists on Biola’s campus, sharing their first-hand experiences about various religions.
Academic Lectures- We also work to host academic lectures geared toward prompting greater intellectual rigor and participation on campus. To truly be a global center of Christian thought, there must be a culture of curiosity; come listen to an expert on something you’re unfamiliar with.

ASDRAR has since successfully taken on more projects and established repeatable events, functioning in every way like an official department. Either the position should be made official and written into the Constitution, or it should be dismantled.- PASSED ON APRIL 1ST, 2008Adam Rodriguez
Director of Religious and Academic Relations
My job is to help stimulate academic and intellectual growth outside the classroom. I do this primarily by hosting academic and religious speakers. This year I plan to continue hosting the world religions lectures, distinguished lecture series, and a debate. In the past two years we hosted a wide variety of religions including Buddhism, Islam, Mormonism, Orthodox Judaism, and Scientology. The distinguished lecturers have included historian George Marsden and philosopher Frank Beckwith. Furthermore, the department co-sponsored the Christopher Hitchens/William Lane Craig debate.
How you can get involved…
The Director of Religious and Academic Relations is a fairly new office at AS, and it needs your input! Please give us feedback concerning what would benefit you as a student here (money for attending conferences, academic journals, inter-faith dialogs). Contact Adam Rodriguez at as.dir.religious.acad@biola.edu or type “AS Dir Religious & Acad Relations” on bubbs.
Looking for a place to volunteer? Join our staff! We’re looking for people who are excited about improving the scholastic experience on campus; use the same contact info as above if you are interested.
