Permanent Position
March 10, 2008 MEMORANDUM FOR A.S. SENIOR VP / SENATE
FROM: Jeremy Mann, A.S. Director of Religious and Academic Relations
SUBJECT:
1. Proposal: That the A.S. Department of Religious and Academic Relations be written into the A.S. Constitution with provisions for an official department, including: i. an independent budget (with a separate account number) ii. the possibility of a hired staff iii. a more formal outline of the department’s purpose and structure
2. Amount Requested: $0
3. Problems with Status Quo: The position of A.S. Director of Religious and Academic Relations was created by A.S. President Christof Meyer to allow for more events aimed at interacting with other faiths and the creation of more intellectual opportunities outside of the classroom. The creation of this position was funded by the general A.S. budget without changing the Constitution. ASDRAR has since successfully taken on more projects and established repeatable events, functioning in every way like an official department. Either the position should be made official and written into the Constitution, or it should be dismantled.
4. Miscellaneous: While it has been suggested that a hired staff member be added to the department, this proposal does not include that stipulation; it simply affords the possibility of such a move in the future.
Jeremy Mann A.S. Director of Religious and Academic Relations
