5 February 2008 MEMORANDUM FOR A.S. SENIOR VP / SENATE
FROM: AS President/Senior VP/VP of Finances/VP of Services
SUBJECT: Removal of two Services Chairs
1. Proposal: The dissolution of two AS services chairs; Chimes and Biolan. These departments would become independent student-run and funded organizations. Oversight would fall to each department’s faculty advisor under the supervision of the Biola Student Media Board.
2. Amount Requested: The current operating funds from the student fee (operations and salary dollars) would be allocated to each department. That amount would be a percentage of the entire student fee and would only increase as a percentage of the overall student fee increase.
3. Problems with Status Quo: Must have a 2/3rd vote to pass. Bylaw II Section III
4. Miscellaneous: The creation of the Media Board by Biola leadership has put AS in a unique situation. Being that the leadership of these two departments will be determined by the Biola Student Media Board, ELT feels that the removal of these departments from the umbrella of AS is not only be best for the organization but for the development and growth of these departments as well.
