MEMORANDUM FOR AS PRESIDENT/SENATE

FROM: Jenna Bartlo, The Chimes Editor-in-Chief

SUBJECT: Chimes Online Multimedia Editor

1. Proposal: The Chimes is proposing for the current Chimes Online Multimedia Editor position to become a paid position through AS, therefore requiring a by-law change.

2. Amount Requested: The new position would be minimum wage ($8) and 15 hours a week.

3. Problems with the status quo: Currently, the Multimedia Editor is paid by scholarship, yet she works approximately 15 hours per week. Her position is as valuable to The Chimes as the Web Editor position since having only one web editor is not an option. The amount of work each of the web editors does each week is more than one person can handle. Also, the value of having two editors is that one can focus more on editing and one can focus on multimedia. By adding the Multimedia Editor as a paid position would also open the door for The Chimes to further continue progress on The Chimes Online.

4. Miscellaneous: The two web editors currently have a heavy load of work that does not assist in creating an innovative sight. Every day, a staff writer is on duty and the site is updated with stories. The site is an interactive website for students and is becoming a recognized news source, however, without further resources the site will no longer grow. At the ACP conference, the online edition was critiqued. They informed the editors and I that the site was the best college newspaper website they had seen. However, the one thing we needed to add was more multimedia. The Chimes would like to expand on our multimedia and is currently doing so. Adding the Multimedia Editor position officially will give The Chimes more resources to continue to expand the site. Chimes Editor in Chief
